The LPMC Monthly Business Meeting is at a new location for July (hopefully our FINAL new location): the historic 19th century Athenaeum Building, downtown Indianapolis, home of the Rathskeller. We'll be in the Max Kade Room, which is on Level 1 (up the stairs from Street Level).

June LPMC Business Meeting

LPMC Monthly Business Meeting at a new location: Noodles & Co. Restaurant, 903 Indiana Avenue, downtown Indianapolis, near IUPUI. They have a very nice conference room in the back that we will be meeting in. (Unfortunately, we will not be returning to ZING Restaurant).

Historically, city and state leaders have decided that corporate welfare is the highest priority for Indianapolis. Professional football received special treatment from the city in 2005, in the form of huge monetary commitments being made to the Indianapolis Colts for a new stadium. This came on the heels of a similar project undertaken for the Indiana Pacers sports franchise.

Annual County Convention - April 18, 2009

The Annual County Convention for the Libertarian Party of Marion County (LPMC) has been set for Saturday, April 18 at 1:00pm!

This meeting will include special guest Chris Spangle, who will be reporting on his recent travels to the Libertarian State Leaders Alliance Conference.

LPMC County Conventions are held once a year, for the purposes of electing delegates and alternate delegates from the LPMC to the state convention; as well as making amendments to the by-laws and receiving an annual report of the LPMC's financial condition. Since there are no elections this year (2009) in Indiana, we will not be nominating any candidates for office this year. If you have a suggested amendment to the by-laws that you'd like considered for vote at the convention, be sure to submit the amendment in writing to the Chairman no later than 5:00pm on April 3, 2009.

Additionally, Timothy Maguire (LPMC Chairman) will be leading a special group exercise during the convention, for the purposes of leadership and volunteer development.

New location for the March Business Meeting

The monthly business meeting for the Libertarian Party of Marion County (LPMC) has a new location for this month of March!

LPMC March Business Meeting: 7:00 pm at Noodles & Co. Restaurant, 903 Indiana Avenue, downtown Indianapolis, near IUPUI.

This meeting will include guest speaker Ed Coleman, Indianapolis City-County Councilor. Ed Coleman recently made some headlines when he officially switched over to the Libertarian Party as an elected official. Come hear why he switched and his vision for the city.

Relief

According to a May 25, 2008 article in the Indianapolis Star (“Most new tax bills are lower” Evans and Nichols), the final revision of 2007 property tax bills in Marion County are, on average, 21% higher than the 2006 bills. Keep in mind, our 2006 property taxes were the highest among the cities included in the Washington, D.C. tax burden comparison reporton the largest cities in each state.

Liberty

As the name implies, the Libertarian Party values individual liberty. We, like our nation's founders, believe it to be "...self-evident that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness..." These sentiments, from the Declaration of Independence, are echoed by the Preamble to the Constitution, which states that the Constitution of the United States was established to "...secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity..."
